Starting Points & General Tips
:: HOME > National Offender Workforce ... > What Your Agency Can Do > Suggested approaches for implementing a partnership at the local level include:
  • Identify local/regional points of contact for each agency (i.e., U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services, Bureau of Prisons (BOP) - Institution or Regional Office, U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, etc.) from the Contact Lists. (Follow link at left.)
  • Contact representatives from the partnering agencies and arrange a meeting or conference call to discuss building the partnerships.
  • Identify local community apprenticeship coordinators that provide leadership or have an interest in assisting ex-offenders. (This can be accomplished with assistance of DOL representative and the DOL website.)
  • Identify projected high growth occupations for your area, including the President's High Growth Initiative. (This can be viewed at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics website or with assistance of the local workforce development agency.)
  • Identify the apprenticeships currently available in the BOP institution through contact with institution apprenticeship coordinators and community advisory board members for identification of relevant apprenticeship programs that can be linked between the prison and community.
