Women and the Criminal Justice System: Gender Matters

A case is made for gender specific programming based upon a review of women's pathways into crime. Among those forces that contribute to female criminal behavior are repeated victimization, use of drugs for self-medication, gender entrapment, and economic marginalization. These life experiences are not addressed by rehabilitation programs for men. Therefore, programs are needed that specifically address the needs of female offenders. Accession Number: period182
