Multnomah County Reengineers Its Classification and Disciplinary Systems

Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) had to overhaul its classification and discipline systems in order to be prepared for potential double bunking. The facility changed over to a full behavior-based classification system. This change resulted in the need to better supervise inmates, thus, the adoption of a modified version of the 5-level discipline program used by the Oregon Department of Corrections. The number of disciplinary hearings per bed increased 20%. Yet, the number of lockdown days per bed decreased 39%, with major incidents at the facility being reduced 15%. Accession Number: period177
