The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) initiative of Colorado is described. CITs work to divert mentally ill people from the criminal justice system. Sections of this report are: background; Crisis Intervention Teams; Colorado's CIT efforts; evaluation; impact of CIT training; impact on the streets; CIT office survey results; systems response; and summary. One result of using CIT is the number of arrests by a CIT officer are only 4%.
