The critical need for corrections personnel to be alert to indicators of prisoner radicalization is explained. This article discusses: "It is not what you think you are; it is what the terrorists think you are"; inmate radicalization -- a concern for corrections; prison recruitment for terrorism and the Correctional Intelligence Initiative (CII); the special report "Out of the Shadows: Getting Ahead of Prisoner Radicalization"; the Washington Post's article "Detainees Used Al-Qaeda Prison Manual"; attacks on U.S. prisons -- the warning signs; and lessons for corrections professionals.
