Violence in California Correctional Facilities: An Empirical Examination of Sexual Assault

This "study sheds insight into the contours of sexual assault in order to contribute to ongoing efforts to create viable interventions designed to prevent and respond to sexual assault in ways that are humane, effective, and constitutional" (p. 1). This report contains the following sections: executive summary; introduction; recent legislation on sexual assault in prison; methodology; data; findings according to the prevalence of sexual assault/misconduct, characteristics of victims, characteristics of incidents, and getting away from numbers and back to the experiences; and summary of findings and recommendations.
