Compliance issues proposed correctional facilities in Indian Country face with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 are explained. The NEPA Environmental Assessment (EA) process requires: initiation of the NEPA analysis; development of an EA; the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI); Environmental Impact Statement (EIS); Record of Decision (ROD); and implementing the decision.
