The "best examples of integrated mental health-criminal planning . . . [being those] that have developed state commissions on mentally ill offenders" are highlighted. Programs briefly described include: Council on Offenders with Mental Impairments (Texas Department of Criminal Justice); Council on Offenders with Mental Impairments (Arizona Department of Health Services' Division of Behavioral Health Services); and the Council on Mentally Ill Offenders (California Youth and Adult Correctional Agency). Action steps for similar planning efforts and available support are also discussed.
