Juvenile detention administrators' responses regarding "what happens to youth when community mental health services are not readily available" are relayed (p. i). Sections of this report include: executive summary; introduction; methods; findings; potential underestimation; conclusion. A few results are: children as young as seven years old are detained; 66% of youth waiting for services have attempted suicide or attacked others; and detention facilities spend nearly $100 million a year to house youth waiting for treatment services.
