The success or failure of correctional boot camp programs to "improve an inmate's attitudes and behaviors [and] reduce the likelihood that he or she will commit another crime after release from prison" are examined (p. ii). Following an executive summary, this report discusses: the need for boot camps; females in boot camps; reducing recidivism -- an unmet goal; a thumbnail review of researching the research; improving behavior -- a success story; reducing prison population -- mixed results; and conclusions.
