Reflections on the Crime Decline: Lessons for the Future? Proceedings from the Urban Institute Crime Decline Forum

Lessons learned during this period of declining crime rates are explored. These proceedings are comprised of the following parts: introduction; declines in crime -- long-term trends; a forum on the crime decline -- reasons for the decline, future challenges (e.g., end of the economic boom, unprecedented number of returning prisoners, persistent urban poverty, and growing youth population), and promising strategies (e.g., capitalizing on the strengths of youth and communities, coordinated efforts and planning for the unpredictability of crime, revitalizing community corrections, and improving policing); and closing thoughts.
