Diversion Programs for Adults

Diversion efforts that address offenders' risks and needs through program intervention are reviewed. These programs are organized according to the stage at which the diversion initiative occurs in the criminal justice process. Diversion programs can be: pre-charge diversion; deferred prosecution (which includes mediation and arbitration programs, and dedicated drug treatment courts); diversion at the sentencing stage (including community service orders and day reporting centers); and post-incarceration programs. Reduced recidivism and costs have not been demonstrated by these programs Accession Number: 015307
