Offender Rehabilitation: From Research to Practice = La Readaptation des Delinquants de la Theorie a la Pratique

Translating into practice what is know from research, this document describes effective interventions with offenders. Effective treatment programs include the following principles: the Risk Principle - the level of treatment should match the risk level of the offender; and the Need Principle - effective programs target criminogenic needs or risk factors that when changed are associated with changes in recidivism (like substance abuse and procriminal attitudes.) Characteristics for success also include cognitive-behavioral interventions. Findings show that direct treatment services are more likely to reduce recidivism than criminal sanctions.
