Career Development and Gender, Race, and Class

The applicability of some prevailing career development theories has been questioned due to these theories' basis on research solely of white middle- and upper-class men. This Digest presents broader perspectives on career development built upon research focused on gender, race, ethnicity, and social class. Theories addressed include those dealing with trait and factor, life-span, social cognitive career, career maturity, and salience (the value individuals place on life roles.) Implications of this new research for career and vocational educators and counselors are also discussed. Accession Number: 015231
