The authors state that the six priority areas of corrections information systems are: offender profile, internal order, program effectiveness, public safety, recidivism, and operational costs. They determined that most data elements in the survey are offender-based and nearly half make up the common core. Availability and quality of data, staffing, and software appear to be critical to moderate issues in many departments. They suggest that the report may be viewed as a step in the effort to further develop comparative corrections data and performance measures.
