1997 Drug Use Forecasting: Annual Report on Adult and Juvenile Arrestees

The Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring (ADAM) program collected data in major metropolitan sites and presents the results in this 1997 report. A review of these results highlights the importance of a local perspective in studying the nation's drug problem. Methamphetamine use is seen primarily among arrestees in Western U.S. cities, while the use of cocaine has rebounded for youthful arrestees in several sites, and opiate use shows signs of growth in a number of communities. In 9 of the 23 sites, the percentages of arrestees who tested positive for at least one drug in 1997 remained the same or decreased slightly from 1996. Accession Number: 014637
