The Jail System

Wyoming has 23 counties and 23 jail facilities with a combined rated capacity of 1,784. There are no formal jail standards or jail inspection programs in the State.

The Prison System

In 2007, the Dept. of Corrections managed 2,084 inmates placed in 4 state-operated facilities, private community centers, and out-of-state placements.

The Community Corrections System

The DOC's Div. of Field Services supervised 5,358 probationers and 706 parolees in 20 field offices.
2007 Crime Rate for Wyoming
The crime rate in Wyoming is about 17% lower than the national average rate. Property crimes account for around 92.3% of the crime rate in Wyoming which is 12% lower than the national rate.
