Overview of Oklahoma's Correctional System Oklahoma

The Jail System

There are 77 counties with 95 jail facilities. Combined rated capacity is 9,952 inmates. A state jail standards and inspection program is administered by the OK Dept. of Health.

The Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections, governed by a 7-member Board, managed 25,849 inmates in 2007, operates 17 facilities and 23 community centers, contracts with 6 private prisons, and has a staff of 4,777. The agency budget in 2009 was $503 million.

The Community Corrections System

The DOC's Community Corrections Division supervised 27,347 probationers and 3,789 parolees in 2008. The division has 66 field offices in 6 districts. The division also administers the Community Sentencing Act.
