The Jail System

There are 88 counties and 118 jail facilities in Ohio. Their combined rated capacity is 20,052. A state jail inspection and standards program is administered by the Ohio Bureau of Adult Detention, Dept. of Rehab. & Correction.

The Prison System

The Dept. of Rehabilition and Correction managed 50,731 inmates in 2007, operates 32 facilities, contracts with 2 private prisons, and has 13,664 employees. The agency's FY 2008 annual budget was over $1.540 billion.

The Community Corrections System

Ohio has 88 counties. The Div. of Parole and Comm. Svcs., Dept. of Rehab. & Corr., provides parole services statewide and probation services in 43 counties. In 45 counties, local court probation agencies supervise probationers. There were 254,898 probationers and 17,575 parolees in Ohio in 2007.
