The Jail System

Montana has 41 jail facilities in the state's 56 counties. Their rated capacity is 2,177. There are no jail standards or inspections programs in the state.

The Prison System

The Dept. of Corrections managed 3,462 inmates at the end of 2007. The DOC operates three state facilities and contracts with 9 regional and private facilities. The DOC has 1,112 employees.

The Community Corrections System

The DOC's Probation and Parole Bureau supervised 9,106 probationers and 966 parolees at yearend 2007. The Bureau has 23 field offices in the state.
