The Jail System

Due to the unified corrections system in Connecticut, there are no locally operated jails.

The Prison System

Connecticut operates a combined jail/prison system which houses approximately 19,000 inmates, of which 15,000 are sentenced inmates. The 18 facilities are staffed with over 6,500 employees.

The Community Corrections System

The Office of Adult Probation (administered by the state's Chief Court Administrator, supervises 57,493 probationers through 16 field offices. Staff of the Board of Parole supervise 2,177 parolees.

The crime rate in Connecticut is about 29% lower than the national average rate. Property crimes account for around 90.4% of the crime rate in Connecticut which is 26% lower than the national rate.
